Abstract
This text was written to help others who find themselves in a leadership position for the first time and are unsure of where to begin their research on how to be on top of this new role. This text is a guide to basic principles on leadership that may or may not be communicated in a comprehensive way. When starting out at a leader, there were topics that I had to research on my own to discover because they were not taught in my bachelor’s or master’s degree leadership courses. This led to the belief that there was a definite knowledge deficit for leaders and the daunting task of self-research to look for the answers. College leadership courses do teach about the styles of leadership, and this text also discusses those styles, but topics such as feelings of imposter syndrome, how to handle difficult conversations and difficult personalities, or the importance of self-care as a leader are not discussed. This guide is written to help bridge that knowledge gap and in hopes that others can see the importance of leadership as a responsibility and not just as a title.
